Workforce Development Program Model

Year-Round Program

Mission Neighborhood Centers year round program provides job training and workforce development opportunities to disenfranchised young and older adults from disadvantaged neighborhoods in San Francisco. Participants receive support in securing their GED, driver’s license and other wrap around services.  The 12-month pre-trainee program collaborates with Public Works to maintain freeway on and off ramps, sidewalks, medians and other public spaces. This program also provides green waste removal, planting, weeding, tree maintenance and landscaping. Additional scope of work includes:

  • Supporting Park Alliance volunteers on weekend projects
  • Supporting Clean Team projects.
  • As needed special project support to DPW:
    • Cleaning homeless encampments
    • Citywide special event and project
      • Cesar Chavez (homeless encampment)
      • Grandview
      • Potrero Hill (25th & Connecticut) – Thanksgiving Event
    • On call support to DPW Zone Supervisors as needed.
    • Cleaning of Caltrans properties

Participants in the year round program receive a total of 40 hours of job readiness training and 1248 hours of hands on work experience.

Fillmore Corridor Program

Mission Neighborhood Centers Corridor Ambassador program provides job training and workforce development opportunities to disenfranchised young and older adults from the Western Addition. The 12- month pre-trainee program collaborates with Public Works to ensure the availability of safe and clean public spaces and provides support to merchants in the Fillmore corridor.

Participants in the corridor program receive a total of 40 hours of job readiness training and 1248 hours work experience focusing on maintaining city streets.

Youth & Young Adult Summer Employment Program

Mission Neighborhood Centers Summer Youth employment program provides job training and workforce development opportunities to disenfranchised youth and young adults from disadvantaged neighborhoods in San Francisco. The 10- week program collaborates with Public Works and Urban Forestry to train youth on litter collection, debris removal, weeding and planting.

Summer youth receive a total of 30 hours of job readiness training and 170 hours of hands on work experience.

IPO Program

The IPO Program at Mission Neighborhood Centers provides job training and workforce development opportunities to disenfranchised young and older adults from disadvantaged neighborhoods in San Francisco. IPO participants are categorized as high risk and have multiple barriers to employment. The 12- month pre-trainee program collaborates with Public Works, HSA, Park and Recreation Department, DPH and adult probation to provide green waste removal, planting, weeding, tree maintenance and landscaping work opportunities for participants.

Participants in the IPO program receive a total of 80 hours of job readiness training, 1248 hours of hands on work experience, 416 hours of education/vocational training and 416 hours of mental health support.

Worksite Training Components:

  • Training on proper hand tools and small power tools
  • Training in maintenance, cleaning and debris removal
  • Training on adhering to safety regulations and OSHA safety guidelines
  • Training on controlling and directing traffic in assigned areas
  • Training in gardening, greening and foliage identification
